Christ Lutheran Church began its ministry in November 1974 as a small Lutheran church in southwest Mustang, Oklahoma. The congregation, has been at its current location, just blocks away, since May 1988. The congregation is well-balanced in its family dynamics, with ages Preschool to Seniors. Its members serve in a variety of ministries/boards that have been formed to carry out the affairs of the congregation and to reach out to the surrounding communities through mission work. We worship every Sunday morning at 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., with Sunday school and Bible study at 9:15. During the week, we offer Confirmation and Midweek classes, and Choir , all seasonal (September through May), and Wednesday night services during Advent and Lent. In addition, we have a strong Men's Club that meets once a month for breakfast and Bible study, as well as a Women's Club that meets once a month for breakfast and Bible study. And, we have some ladies of the congregation who are members of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, the official women's organization of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod since 1942.
Sacraments We celebrate Communion (the Lord's Supper) the first and third Sundays every month at the 8 a.m. service and the second and fourth Sundays every month at the 10:30 a.m. service. We believe that Communion carries with it responsibilities as well as privileges. We follow the instructions of St. Paul in I Corinthians 11:27-28 where we read, "Whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner sins against the body and blood of the Lord. Therefore one ought to examine oneself before one eats of the bread and drinks of the cup: We ask ourselves questions of examination: + Am I a baptized Christian? + Do I believe that I am a sinner and am I sorry for my sins? + Do I believe that Jesus is my Savior and that through him my sins are forgiven? + Do I believe that in this meal I actually receive the true Body and Blood of Jesus for the forgiveness of my sins, not just a symbol of it? + Do I want, with the help of God, to live a Christian life?
Baptism The sacrament of Baptism, in the name of the Triune God with water, is administered by our pastor to infants and to older children/adults who have never received this sacrament. *Lutherans believe that the Bible teaches that a person is saved by God's grace alone through faith alone in Jesus Christ. Baptism, we believe, is one of the miraculous means of grace (together with God's written and spoken Word) through which God creates the gift of faith in a person's heart. Although we do not claim to understand how this happens or how it is possible, we believe (because of what the Bible says about baptism) that when an infant is baptized, God creates faith in the heart of that infant. This faith cannot yet, of course, be expressed or articulated, yet it is real and present all the same (see, Bible references: , 1 Peter 3:21; Acts 2:38-39; Titus 3:5-6; Matthew 18:6; Luke 1:15; 2 Timothy 3:15; Galations 3:26-27; Romans 6:4; Colossians 2:11-12; 1 Corinthians 12:13). Parents and sponsors of a baptized child bear the responsibility of teaching this child God's Word so that the child's faith may remain alive and grow (Matthew 28:18-20). When this child is 12-14, Confirmation is a time-honored church tradition in which the child baptized as an infant is given the opportunity to confess for himself or herself the faith that he or she was unable to confess as an infant. Faith is not "created" at confirmation, but rather confessed for all to hear, so that the church can join and rejoice in this public confession, which has its roots in the faith which God Himself created in baptism. As for adults, whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned" (Mark 16:15). We believe baptism works forgiveness of sins, rescues from death and the devil, and gives eternal salvation to all who believe this, as the words and promises of God declare." * Copied with permission, LCMS...
